Ambassador Wendy R. Sherman named 2016 Commencement Speaker for the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies

Ambassador Wendy R. Sherman will deliver the keynote address during the 2016 commencement ceremony for the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at D.A.R. Constitution Hall.
Ambassador Sherman is Senior Counselor at Albright Stonebridge Group, Senior Fellow at Harvard Belfer Center, and former Under Secretary for Political Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. She led the U.S. negotiating team that reached an agreement on a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between the P5+1, the European Union, and Iran, for which she was awarded the National Security Medal by President Barack Obama.
She has also served as Counselor for the State Department under Secretary Madeleine Albright, Special Advisor to President Bill Clinton on North Korea, Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs, and Vice Chair of the Albright Stonebridge Group. Early in her career, she managed Senator Barbara Mikulski’s successful campaign for the U.S Senate and served as Director of EMILY’s List.
Ambassador Sherman has served on the Board of Directors of Oxfam America; the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Policy Board; and the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction, Proliferation and Terrorism. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Aspen Strategy Group.
