JHU SAIS to Host Forum on Award-Winning Journalism

The Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) will host a panel discussion, "The Inside Story on Award-Winning Journalism," on Thursday, 04/19 at 3:30 p.m.

Featured panelists include the recently named 2000 winners of the SAIS-Novartis International Journalism Award:

Jung-Eun Kim and Peter Charley, grand prize winners of the SAIS-Novartis Award for their video report for Australia's SBS-TV, "On Life's Border: The Plight of North Korean Refugees in China"

Anne Nivat, French freelancer for Liberation Daily

Barton Gellman, Washington Post reporter

Sebastian Junger, Vanity Fair reporter

Yovo Nikolov, Capital Weekly (Bulgaria) reporter

Jaromir Stetina, Czech TV reporter

The event, open to the public, will take place in Kenney Auditorium, first floor of the school's Nitze Building, 1740 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

In addition, SAIS will host screenings of the award-winning video reports and discussions with the journalists. On Wednesday, 04/18 at 2:30 p.m., Czech-TV's documentary, "The War in Chechnya," will be screened. This event will take place in the SAIS Rome Auditorium, 1619 Massachusetts Ave., N.W. On Friday, 04/20 at noon, SAIS and the Australian Embassy will screen the grand-prize documentary, "On Life's Border." This event will take place at the Australian Embassy, 1601 Massachusetts Ave., N.W.

The award program is administered by SAIS and supported by Novartis, a world leader in health care products, whose sole interest is to promote excellence in reporting and greater public awareness of the our world. It plays no role in the judging process. SAIS and Novartis created the annual $15,000 SAIS-Novartis Prize in 1995 to recognize outstanding achievement in the coverage of international affairs.
