About

Adnan Kummer is the Senior Lecturer of International Economics and formerly the Associate Academic Director of the Master of International Economics and Finance program at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Dr. Kummer’s research and teaching focuses on international monetary policy, central banking in emerging markets, international macroeconomics and finance, and International political economy.

During 2018 to 2021, Dr. Kummer was Division Head in the Economic Policy department of the Monetary Policy and Research Group at the Central Bank of Pakistan where he also represented the central bank in the IMF’s $6 billion 39-month Extended Fund Facility program for Pakistan. In addition, Dr. Kummer was also the central bank’s representative on the long-term structural economic reforms to the Planning Commission of Pakistan which is the principal economic policy development institution of the country.

Previously, Dr. Kummer was an economist consultant in the World Bank Group’s Global Capital Markets Practice where he worked on developing financial regulation and market integration for the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region. Before that he also worked for the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Earlier in his career, Kummer worked in consulting as a Principal Consultant and Manager in the United States, specializing in the business and technology practice.

In 2022, Dr. Kummer was the recipient of International Economics Excellence in Teaching Award from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

Kummer holds a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from the University of Houston, and an MBA, MS, and PhD from the University of Texas at Dallas.
